A Night of Excess
The story opens with Meagan heavily intoxicated while hanging out with her friend Kat and her boyfriend Shane. Despite Shane’s attempts to intervene and warn her that she is pushing her limits, Kat actively encourages Meagan to keep taking shots. Meagan stubbornly refuses to listen, promising she won’t get sick, but ultimately ends up collapsed on the bathroom floor, drunkenly talking to the toilet as she repeatedly throws up.
The Morning After and an Ultimatum
The following morning, Meagan wakes up severely hungover and declares to Shane that she is done with drinking. Shane, however, is highly skeptical, noting that she has made this exact same promise countless times before. Frustrated by her recurring destructive behavior and her dismissive attitude toward his concerns, Shane issues a firm ultimatum: if Meagan doesn’t get her drinking under control, their relationship is over.
Temptation and Relapse
Later that same evening, Kat arrives at Meagan’s bedroom armed with wine. Initially, Meagan resists, citing her terrible hangover and the very real threat that Shane will break up with her if he finds out. However, Kat brushes off Meagan’s concerns and insists that more alcohol is the best cure for a hangover, successfully pressuring Meagan into giving in and drinking again.
Caught in the Act
When Shane returns home, he hears loud laughter coming from the bedroom and walks in to discover the two girls completely drunk after downing two bottles of wine. Shocked and disappointed that she is drinking again right after the previous night’s disaster, Shane immediately pulls Meagan out of the room for a serious conversation. Meagan’s friend Kat, meanwhile, seems quietly pleased by the ensuing argument between the couple.
The Breaking Point
Out in the living room, Shane tests Meagan’s sobriety, which she fails spectacularly by being unable to say the alphabet backward or walk in a straight line without falling to the ground. Realizing she hasn’t changed her habits, Shane firmly ends the relationship, prompting Meagan to explode in anger and hurl insults at him. The confrontation spills outside, where Meagan’s volatile, drunken state leads to a physical and emotional climax that alters the course of their lives.
